It turned into a staycation

When your M-F 9-5 is spent sitting at a desk glued to a computer, long weekends are it. I always try to plan a little something- a trip or a fun event. I totally dropped the ball on planning a camping trip upstate this Memorial Day weekend, so we stayed in the city and just wandered. Sometimes all you need is where you are.

Trying new things

So I've been a little nervous about sharing my site and pushing it out live for the world to see...and to judge. But what exactly am I waiting for? What better time than now?!

It's been too long since I've felt truly soulful and created something beautiful or meaningful. I am not just my 9-5 weekdays. I want to live in boundless curiosity, cultivate an open heart, play with notions of self-expression and share. Imagery and storytelling is powerful content, and quickly redefining how we communicate.

I've seen my interest in and love for visual storytelling grow over the last few years, and this change in perspective is transforming my life. Yes, thank you Instagram.

So I'm learning as much as I can about photography. I'm carrying a camera around with me and exploring my surroundings through the lens. I’m constantly amused by what I choose to capture- it surprises me in ways that no other documentation I've created does.

We all start somewhere. It's a work in progress, will hopefully always be in progress, and I'm really excited to see where I'm headed. Here we go!

LA

I've romanticized the hell out of California for years. I've always felt my soul belongs on the sunnier, slower, spacier West Coast. And the outdoors and the ability to get up and go to the mountains/beach/city/woods/etc sounds amazing. So the bar was set high high high for my first time in LA last weekend. I liked what I felt. It's all about expectations and perspective, right? Find the right people, find the right place...find a niche. I don't think leaving NYC will ever be easy, but being bi-coastal for a bit would solve that.

A cabin in Brooklyn

Urban Cowboy B&B blew me away. Who knew you could be transported to a completely different land 5 minutes away from your own home in the middle of Brooklyn. Just look at the cabin. This place is good vibes.

My first time with a DSLR

I've really been drawn to documenting experiences through photos in the last few years and the power of visual storytelling. I've been using my iPhone and recently switched to a Sony Cyber-shot RX100, but those have their limitations. So I tried shooting on manual with a DSLR today...neither of which I've ever done before. There's something really exciting about creating a photo not just taking a photo. Can't wait to see where this goes.

Camp No Counselors

Adult sleep away camp actually exists. I never went to camp as a kid so when a friend raved about the experience as an adult, I thought what the heck might as well try it. In late Feb, I spent a long weekend not talking about work with 60 strangers at Camp No Counselor's winter camp in the Poconos. It's hard getting to the top bunk.
